Eligibility Criteria for the NaPQIN Small Grant Call (Initial $1,000 with Potential for Additional Funding)- Round 2

The objective of this small grant is to support hospitals and healthcare institutions under the National Perioperative Quality Improvement Network (NaPQIN) in conducting high-quality clinical audits. These audits aim to improve perioperative care practices through data-driven analysis and evidence-based outcomes. This initiative seeks to foster collaboration, enhance the use of national data resources, and promote impactful findings that contribute to broader perioperative quality improvements.
1. Institutional Affiliation: Applicants must be affiliated with a hospital or healthcare institution that is an active member of NaPQIN. Proof of active membership or an endorsement from the institution is required.
2. Purpose and Relevance: The proposed clinical audit must align with NaPQIN’s goal of enhancing perioperative care quality and safety. The project should utilize data from the NaPQIN national database for conducting evidence-based analyses.
3. Supervision by NaPQIN Academia: The audit must be supervised by a professional from NaPQIN academia to ensure adherence to the network’s protocols and best practices.
4. Initial and Conditional Funding Release:
– Initial 50% of the $1,000 grant will be released Upon approval of submitted project proposal.
Final 50% will be disbursed upon publication of the audit results in a recognized peer-reviewed journal.
5. Allowable Use of Funds:
6. Personal Time Compensation: The grant may be used to compensate researchers for their time dedicated to the audit.
7. Ethics Application Fees: Costs associated with obtaining ethics committee approval can be covered.
8. Communication Costs: Funds can be allocated for necessary communication expenses, such as coordinating between sites or consulting with the NaPQIN-assigned supervisor.
9. Non-Allowable Costs: The grant cannot be used for publication fees, travel expenses, or other unrelated expenses.
10. Eligibility for Additional Funding: Applicants can request additional funding for more complex, multisite, or high-impact audits, provided they submit a detailed supplementary budget plan that justifies the use of funds for approved purposes only.
11. Collaborative Projects: Collaboration between sites is encouraged, especially for audits that include data utilization from multiple hospitals. A coordination plan should be submitted to outline roles, responsibilities, and communication strategies.
12. Detailed Project Proposal: A complete proposal must include one page of project summary, an introduction, project objectives, methodology, timeline, expected outcomes, budget details, reference and an annexe of the questionnaire tool (data extraction tool)
13. Ethics and Compliance: The audit must comply with relevant ethical standards and regulations. Applicants must include evidence of ethics committee approval or plans to obtain it before starting the project.
14. Reporting and Progress Tracking: Applicants must agree to submit interim progress updates to the NaPQIN-assigned supervisor and a comprehensive final report upon completion. Proof of journal submission or publication must also be provided for the release of the remaining grant funds.
15. Experience and Capacity: Preference may be given to teams with prior experience in clinical audits or quality improvement initiatives, but collaborations with experienced partners will be viewed favorably.
16. Dissemination of Findings: Although publication fees are not covered by the grant, recipients are expected to submit their findings to a peer-reviewed journal and share results at NaPQIN events or conferences.
17. Budget Justification: Applicants must submit a budget detailing how the grant will be allocated across personal compensation, ethics application fees, and communication costs, ensuring no funds are used for ineligible expenses.
18. Recognition and Collaboration Incentives: High-impact, collaborative audits involving multiple sites may be recognized by NaPQIN with awards or special acknowledgments, fostering further collaboration and innovation.
19. Training and Support: NaPQIN may offer training or workshops on conducting and managing multisite audits to ensure consistency and quality.
